MANAGING DIRECTOR

The Soros Economic Development Fund, a not-for-profit corporation founded by the philanthropist George Soros; the Omidyar Network a philanthropic investment firm founded by Pierre Omidyar, the founder of eBay, and his wife Pam; and Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, are collaborating to create an Investment Advisory Company which, in turn, expects to hire a Managing Director to oversee its activities in India.  The Investment Advisory Company expects to provide advice with potential equity investments to be made by a Mauritius for profit Investment Company in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in India. It is expected that there will be investments made in approximately 10-15 companies during a five year investment period.

The Investment Company will consider social and economic development factors.  It aims to create a successful model to demonstrate that investing in SMEs not only can achieve economic returns, hence catalyzing greater investment in the sector, but can also meet important social objectives such as increasing economic opportunities and jobs for low-income populations in India. SMEs are critical for creating more equitable economic growth.  The Investment Company wants to create more opportunities to provide growth capital to those businesses and sectors that currently have little access to financing.
