INVESTMENTS DIRECTOR
The Soros
Economic Development Fund, a not-for-profit corporation founded by the
philanthropist George Soros; the Omidyar Network, a philanthropic investment firm
founded by Pierre Omidyar, the founder of eBay, and his wife Pam; and Google.org,
the philanthropic arm of Google, are collaborating to create an Investment
Advisory Company which, in turn, expects to hire an Investments Director to support
its activities in India. The Investment
Advisory Company expects to provide advice with potential investments to be
made by a Mauritius
for-profit Investment Company in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in India.
It is expected that there will be investments made in approximately 10-15
companies during the five-year investment period.
The Investment
Company will consider social and economic development factors. It aims to create
a successful model to demonstrate that investing in SMEs not only can achieve
economic returns, hence catalyzing greater investment in the sector, but can
also meet important social objectives such as increasing economic opportunities
and jobs for low-income populations in India. SMEs are critical for creating
more equitable economic growth. The
Investment Company wants to create more opportunities to provide growth capital
to those businesses and sectors that currently have little access to
financing.
The Investments Director will assist the Investment Advisory
Company by working on, among other tasks:
· Analyzing
financial statements and performing complex financial modeling of potential and
existing investments;
· Helping structure
innovative financings to new and existing small and medium enterprises in the Indian territory;
· Evaluating
financial reports and other documentation from the portfolio institutions;
· Performing
feasibility analysis, on-site visits and investment due diligence;
· Knowledge of
small and medium business sectors in India would be a plus.
Experience and Qualifications:

BA in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related
discipline; MBA or Parts 1&2 of CFA examination would be an advantage;
· One to three years experience in investment banking,
commercial banking or analysis for an investment fund;
· Ability to run complex financial models and financial
analysis calculations;
· Fluency in English written and spoken, knowledge of
Hindi or another local language a plus;
· Familiarity with legal documentation;
· Excellent interpersonal, written skills and ability to compose effective, thoughtful correspondence;
· Excellent quantitative and critical thinking skills;
·
Ability to work under pressure, within deadlines and
in a small group environment;
· Experience in understanding and interpreting business
operations, management capabilities and practices as they relate to business
financial requirements;
·
Ability for extensive in-country travel.
Location: The Indian
School of Business in Hyderabad is being
considered as the location of the office.
Compensation: Based upon experience. Performance based bonus is open for
negotiation.
